1. This is the book of the generations of Adam. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God.
アダムの系図は次のとおりである。神が人を創造された時、神をかたどって造り、
- フランス語訳では the book の部分は histoire（物語）になっている。
2. Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created.
彼らを男と女とに創造された。彼らが創造された時、神は彼らを祝福して、その名をアダムと名づけられた。
- Manはアダム（ヘブライ語で「人」）のこと。

3. When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.
アダムは百三十歳になって、自分にかたどり、自分のかたちのような男の子を生み、その名をセツと名づけた。
- 神がアダムを創造したように、アダムがセツを創造した。
- 英語で father（父になる）となっているところを、日本語では「生む」と表現している。ヘブライ語でも「生む」に相当する表現になっている様子。
4. The days of Adam after he fathered Seth were 800 years; and he had other sons and daughters.
アダムがセツを生んで後、生きた年は八百年であって、ほかに男子と女子を生んだ。
- 最初に産んだ子供の名前だけを記述しているのは長子相続の伝統によるものか。
- セツまたはセト(Seth)の名は、「カインがアベルを殺したので、神が彼に代わる子を授け（シャト）られた」のが由来とされる。（セト(聖書) - Wikipedia）
5. Thus all the days that Adam lived were 930 years, and he died.
アダムの生きた年は合わせて九百三十歳であった。そして彼は死んだ。
- 130＋800＝930年生きたアダム。
6. When Seth had lived 105 years, he fathered Enosh.
セツは百五歳になって、エノスを生んだ。
- この章では、「○○歳になった時に子供を産み、そのあと○○年生きて他の子供を産み、併せて○○年生きて、そして死んだ」の形式が繰り返される。
7. Seth lived after he fathered Enosh 807 years and had other sons and daughters.
セツはエノスを生んだ後、八百七年生きて、男子と女子を生んだ。
8. Thus all the days of Seth were 912 years, and he died.
セツの年は合わせて九百十二歳であった。そして彼は死んだ。
9. When Enosh had lived 90 years, he fathered Kenan.
エノスは九十歳になって、カイナンを生んだ。
- 徐々に寿命が短くなっていく様は、『古事記』におけるニニギから歴代天皇の系譜を思い出す。不死の存在（あるいはそれに近い存在）が世代を経て、定命の存在（人間）になっていく。現に人間に寿命があることへの辻褄合わせとも言えるか。
10. Enosh lived after he fathered Kenan 815 years and had other sons and daughters.
エノスはカイナンを生んだ後、八百十五年生きて、男子と女子を生んだ。
11. Thus all the days of Enosh were 905 years, and he died.
エノスの年は合わせて九百五歳であった。そして彼は死んだ。
12. When Kenan had lived 70 years, he fathered Mahalalel.
カイナンは七十歳になって、マハラレルを生んだ。
13. Kenan lived after he fathered Mahalalel 840 years and had other sons and daughters.
カイナンはマハラレルを生んだ後、八百四十年生きて、男子と女子を生んだ。
14. Thus all the days of Kenan were 910 years, and he died.
カイナンの年は合わせて九百十歳であった。そして彼は死んだ。
15. When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he fathered Jared.
マハラレルは六十五歳になって、ヤレドを生んだ。
16. Mahalalel lived after he fathered Jared 830 years and had other sons and daughters.
マハラレルはヤレドを生んだ後、八百三十年生きて、男子と女子を生んだ。
17. Thus all the days of Mahalalel were 895 years, and he died.
マハラレルの年は合わせて八百九十五歳であった。そして彼は死んだ。
18. When Jared had lived 162 years, he fathered Enoch.
ヤレドは百六十二歳になって、エノクを生んだ。
- カインの系図中のエノクとはもちろん別。
- エノクの名は「従う者」の意であるらしい。（エノク - Wikipedia）
19. Jared lived after he fathered Enoch 800 years and had other sons and daughters.
ヤレドはエノクを生んだ後、八百年生きて、男子と女子を生んだ。
20. Thus all the days of Jared were 962 years, and he died.
ヤレドの年は合わせて九百六十二歳であった。そして彼は死んだ。
21. When Enoch had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah.
エノクは六十五歳になって、メトセラを生んだ。
22. Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters.
エノクはメトセラを生んだ後、三百年、神とともに歩み、男子と女子を生んだ。

23. Thus all the days of Enoch were 365 years.
エノクの年は合わせて三百六十五歳であった。
24. Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.
エノクは神とともに歩み、神が彼を取られたので、いなくなった。

「七十人訳聖書では was not は was not found。」 - 他の人物と違い、「神がエノクをとる」と表現され、「死んだ(die)」と表現されていない。『エノク書』によれば、エノクは神により天に上げられたあと、天使メタトロンに変容させられたという。
（私の知るうち、このあたりを元ネタとした作品として、ゲーム『エルシャダイ(El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron)』がある。サブタイトルは「メタトロンの昇天」の意。主人公として天界の書記官を務める人間「イーノック」(エノク)が登場する。）
25. When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he fathered Lamech.
メトセラは百八十七歳になって、レメクを生んだ。
26. Methuselah lived after he fathered Lamech 782 years and had other sons and daughters.
メトセラはレメクを生んだ後、七百八十二年生きて、男子と女子を生んだ。
- もちろん第4章のレメクとは別人。
27. Thus all the days of Methuselah were 969 years, and he died.
メトセラの年は合わせて九百六十九歳であった。そして彼は死んだ。
- 享年969歳。創世記全体、ひいては聖書全体でも最も長寿な人物であったようだ。ノアの祖父にあたる。
28. When Lamech had lived 182 years, he fathered a son
レメクは百八十二歳になって、男の子を生み、
29. and called his name Noah, saying, “Out of the ground that the Lord has cursed, this one shall bring us relief from our work and from the painful toil of our hands.”
「この子こそ、主が地をのろわれたため、骨折り働くわれわれを慰めるもの」と言って、その名をノアと名づけた。
- ［Bible Gateway註；Noah sounds like the Hebrew for rest］
「"ノア" は "慰め" を表すヘブライ語に音が似ている。」 - 「主が地を呪った」というのは、「地が呪われる原因となったのはアダムだが、そもそも神がそのようにしなければ起こらないことである」ということか。当然ここだけではないが、マルブランシュみを感じる（機会原因論）。
30. Lamech lived after he fathered Noah 595 years and had other sons and daughters.
レメクはノアを生んだ後、五百九十五年生きて、男子と女子を生んだ。
31. Thus all the days of Lamech were 777 years, and he died.
レメクの年は合わせて七百七十七歳であった。そして彼は死んだ。
- 7、77ときて、777もだすのか～。
32. After Noah was 500 years old, Noah fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
ノアは五百歳になって、セム、ハム、ヤペテを生んだ。
次回
